San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Mexico Independence day is September 16th.  We arrived in San Miguel de Allende on the 18th and were treated to continued ceremony the morning of the 19th in the public square.  Remembrance is particularly noted in this town given that Ignacio Allende was a noted leader of Mexico during its struggle for independence 1810-1821.  Mexican flags and other decorations were added to what is already a colorful town.  What a great welcome!

Friday 10-13-2017 Guanajuanato is another small city, near San Miguel de Allende and also very attractive.  Good weather, lively people, beautiful architecture and lots to do.  It is the heart of the "route to independence," as Mexicans refer to the region.  Where the brave men and women hatched and carried out a successful plan to liberate the country of Spanish rule.  This is a university city, considered one of the best.  Therefore much culture in addition to all its other qualities.

Hot Air Balloons

Early one morning we heard a strange series of sounds that were foreign to our ears.  We scurried up the metal staircase to the rooftop terrace of our casita.  What a delight to see hot air balloons hovering over our neighborhood, seemingly close enough to reach up and touch.  All this from our casita in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Saint Michael, patron saint

Sunday 10-1-2017 We've been in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for two weeks.  And we've experienced two weeks of ceremonies, parades and other festivities.  Non-stop.  This town is not only family friendly, community oriented and rich in culture, but it loves to party!  People are out on the streets all day and late into the night.  Whether at cafes and restaurants, or at their beloved central square, namely El Jardin.  We love it!
